For example, a payment claim must:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be in writing;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">identify the construction work done, and the relevant period to which the payment relates;&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">state an amount and the due date for this payment;&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">indicate how this amount was calculated; and<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">include written documentation of the process for responding to the claim, and the consequences of not responding.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Merits-Based Disputes<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A merits-based dispute refers to disputes concerning the construction contract that governs the relationship you have with contractors or clients. These disputes may relate to:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a failure to pay for work done;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the scope or quality of the work done.
