This will generally be the case where you operate as a company or limited partnership.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alternatively, you will need to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzbn.govt.nz\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">apply for an NZBN<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on their website if you:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">are operating as a sole trader, partnership or trust; and\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">meet the <a href=\"https:\/\/legalvision.co.nz\/business-structures\/how-to-start-a-business-in-new-zealand-as-a-foreigner\/\">\u2018in business in New Zealand\u2019 criteria<\/a>.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The \u2018in business in New Zealand\u2019 criteria recognise your eligibility for an NZBN if you acquire or:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">supply goods or services; or<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">dispose of land.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, you will not meet the criteria if you engage in these activities as a consumer, employee, or as an individual member of an unincorporated entity.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What Information Do You Need to Get an NZBN?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When you apply, you have to provide your core business information or Primary Business Data to the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Register, including your business\u2019:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">trading name;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">email;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">legal business name;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">phone number;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">physical address;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">business industry classification code;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">registered business address; and<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"box box--info box--icon\">\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tip: It is a good idea to keep your core business information up to date. Your NZBN account should become your go-to when anything changes in your business. This is because other businesses rely on the accuracy of this information. However, this is not always the best approach.
